GL.iNet routers are well known for their OpenWrt-based firmware and built-in VPN features. The newly released GL.iNet Flint 3 (GL-BE9300) has quickly gained attention for offering strong performance at an affordable price. So how does it stack up against competitors like the Netgear RS300, TP-Link Archer BE550, and Asus RT-BE92U—and which one is the best fit for your needs?

In this article:

What this product does

The GL.iNet Flint 3 is a tri-band WiFi 7 router that delivers a total combined bandwidth of up to 9,300 Mbps, making it well suited for homes up to around 2,000 square feet. If you need wider coverage, you can easily expand the network by adding a wireless range extender.

Market Competition

Several well-known brands offer similar products in this segment, including the Netgear RS300, Asus RT-BE92U, and TP-Link Archer BE550, all priced within a similar range. So how does the Flint 3 stand out from these competitors? Let’s take a closer look at the three specification comparison tables below.

Bandwidth capacity

All three models offer very similar overall bandwidth, with only small differences in the 2.4GHz band. Both the GL.iNet Flint 3 and the Netgear RS300 deliver the same bandwidth across all three bands. In comparison, the Asus RT-BE92U and TP-Link Archer BE550 offer slightly higher bandwidth on the 2.4GHz band, while their 5GHz and 6GHz performance remains the same as the others.

If you have many devices that rely on the 2.4GHz band—such as smart home devices—the Asus and TP-Link models may offer an advantage thanks to their higher bandwidth in that range.

To take advantage of the cleaner and less congested 6GHz band, you can upgrade your laptop or desktop with a USB adapter that supports WiFi 7. An affordable option is the BrosTrend BE6500 USB WiFi 7 adapter, which is typically priced lower than similar adapters from TP-Link or Netgear.

Ethernet Ports

The Flint 3, Netgear RS300, and TP-Link Archer BE550 all support internet speeds of up to 2.5Gbps. If you subscribe to a cable internet plan offering up to 2Gbps, you can pair any of these routers with a cable modem that has a 2.5Gbps Ethernet port, such as the Arris S33 or Netgear CM2000.

The Asus RT-BE92U stands out from the other three by offering a multi-gig 10Gbps WAN/LAN port, which can be configured for either internet or wired LAN use. With the next generation of DOCSIS 4.0 cable technology on the horizon – supporting internet speeds of up to 10Gbps – the RT-BE92U is well prepared for future upgrades.

Dual WAN support

Both the GL.iNet Flint 3 and the Asus RT-BE92U support dual-WAN connectivity, allowing you to set up either failover or load-balancing configurations. On the Flint 3, the WAN port can be used as the primary internet connection, while LAN port #1 can serve as a secondary link. In a failover setup, if the primary connection goes down, the system automatically switches to the backup, helping create near-zero downtime and a highly reliable connection.

The Asus RT-BE92U also includes a USB 3.0 port that lets you connect a 4G or 5G dongle as a secondary WAN. This can be configured for either failover or load balancing, adding even more flexibility for maintaining a stable internet connection.

 Spec comparison tables

Table 1 provides a specification comparison between the GL.iNet Flint 3 and the Netgear RS300. Table 2 highlights the key differences between the GL.iNet Flint 3 and the Asus RT-BE92U. Meanwhile, Table 3 compares the GL.iNet Flint 3 with the TP-Link Archer BE550, all of which fall into the mid-range WiFi 7 category.
